Course summary
This program is designed for students who wish to be employed as Career and Technical Education instructors and who possess job-relevant competence. Several courses are available via web-based instruction even though courses are typically delivered in a traditional classroom setting providing interaction among teacher education faculty, pre-service teachers, and guest speakers. Opportunities also exist for interpersonal and social contact, observation of non-verbal communication, and role modeling. Emphasis in this program of study is on assisting pre-service teachers with the transition from business/industry to education.

The modules are: ENG 101 Academic Writing and Reading, ENG 102 Writing in Academic Discourse, MTH 145 Mathematics and the Modern World, ED 210 Education in a Democracy, CTE 400 Pre-Sservice Workshop for First-Year CTE Teachers, CTE 430 Prioritizing and Mapping Curriculum, CTE 440 Overview of Career and Technical Education, CTE 410 The Learning Environment, CTE 415 Clinical Practice I, CTE 450 Communication Techniques, CTE 420 Assessment and Instruction, ED 432 Improvement of Reading in Secondary Schools, ED 301 WI Schooling in a Diverse Society, ED 303 WI Introduction to Educational Psychology, EDS 333 Learning Differences: Introduction, COM 101 Essentials of Public Address, CTE 480 Occupational Safety, CTE 481 Understanding and Teaching At Risk Students, CTE 482 Laws and Regulations for Vocational Education, CTE 483 Integrating Academics in Career and Technical Education.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have earned a certificate of completion of secondary education that would enable the student to be admitted to a university in his or her home country, have studied mathematics and science subjects at the secondary level, a minimum score of 173(CBT) or 61/120 (IBT) in TOEFL (College of Engineering and Computer Science requires 197(CBT) or 71/120(IBT)), a minimum score of band 5 in IELTS, 1140 or higher in SAT or 25 or higher in ACT for coming directly out of secondary school with GPA is 3.25 or higher and must ranked among the top 10% of their graduating class.
