Course summary
This area is concerned with the properties and manufacture of building-block devices (diodes, transistors, lasers) used in integrated circuits (IC's) to build electronic and photonic systems, and with their integration into circuits. It also encompasses the burgeoning field of microelectromechanical, micromechanical and microfluidic devices made possible by the fabrication techniques underlying integrated circuit manufacture.
Program modules
The following are the modules: FOUNDATION COURSE - ECE 162 Microelectronic Devices (F) [ECE 51L] or ECE 163 Integrated Circuits (Sp) [ECE 51L], ECE 216 Devices for Integrated Circuits (F) [ECE 162], ECE 217 Analog Integrated Circuits (Sp) [ECE 216], ECE 218 Integrated Circuit Engineering (Sp) [ECE 162 or ECE 163L], ECE 219 Digital Integrated Circuits (Sp) [ECE 162 and ECE 163L], ECE 261 Full Custom VLSI Design (F) [ECE 52L and ECE 163L], ECE 262 Analog Integrated Circuit Design (Sp) [ECE 162 or ECE 163L], ECE 264 CAD for Mixed-Signal Circuits (F) [ECE 163L].
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants for admission must complete either the College Board Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the test of the American College Program (ACT). Applicants taking the SAT should take the three-part SAT Reasoning Test plus two SAT subject tests. Applicants to the Pratt School of Engineering must take one SAT Subject Test in mathematics. Applicants who choose to take the ACT should plan to take the ACT with the new writing portion. A minimum score of 100 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT) or 250 on the computer-based TOEFL (CBT) or 600 on the paper-based TOEFL (PBT) or an overall band score of 7 on the IELTS is expected for all applicants to Duke.
