Course summary
This program is designed as a gateway program to the Amridge University Master of Science degree program with concentrations in family therapy or in counseling. Students will be prepared in the dynamics of human relations and interactions that are critical in all positions relying on close working relationships with others in the church or business world. Students will be introduced to human development, motivation, introductory counseling theories and practices, aging, and diversity. Upon completion of this program students will have acquired skills and knowledge needed to function effectively in church settings and other organizations, acquired skills and knowledge in general education areas that are foundation to life skills and further education, gained basic knowledge of counseling theories, developed a basic understanding of human development and developed basic skills in psychology and sociology.
Program modules
The Lower Division Courses must include at least one course in Math or Natural Science, one in Social Science or Behavioral Science, one in Humanities or Fine Arts and one in Communications (English). The foundation course, FD 1412 Management Intervention is strongly recommended for all students. The other courses include: HD 4401 Introduction to Child Development, HD 4402 Seasons of Life, HD 4403 Psychology in Life, HD 4404 Counseling Theories and Practice, HD 4405 Abnormal Psychology, HD 4406 Theories of Personality and Motivation, HD 4407 Motivation and Performance, HD 4408 Thinking About Race, Class and Gender, HD 4409 Family and Society, NT 3403 Introduction and Survey of the New Testament, OT 3401 Introduction and Survey of the Old Testament, PH 4401 World Views: Islam, Humanism, Marxism, Christianity, TH 4405 Systematic Theology and General Electives.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants should have a minimum TOEFL score of 440 for the paper examination version and 123 for the computer version or equivalent score of an approved equivalent test.
