Course summary

This program helps the students to pursue this hot career opportunity through network technology classes and hands-on learning in network administration, design and security. The course work is designed to prepare students to take certification tests from Microsoft, Cisco, and other leading technology organizations and provide the knowledge necessary to design, maintain and troubleshoot Internet, intranet, and extranet connections including local and wide-area networks. People who choose this specialization are often pursuing technical specialist positions designing, implementing and maintaining networks in both the public and private sector.

Program modules

Core modules include: Communication Strategies for the Information Technology Professional IT3006, Fundamentals of Project Management IT3120, Ethical and Human Side of Information Technology IT3160, Enterprise Architecture IT3200 Human-Computer Interaction IT3300, Hardware and Operating Systems Architecture IT3310, Fundamentals of Software Architecture IT3340, Network and Security Architecture IT3350. Specialization modules include choosing 42 quarter credits from the following courses: Network Administration IT4040, Advanced Network Administration IT4041,Network Analysis and Design IT4045,Introduction to Internetworking IT4140,Advanced Internetworking IT4141,System Assurance Security IT4803,Operating Systems IT4813 and Introduction to Telecommunications IT4815. Elective course include choosing 39 quarter credits of additional undergraduate courses. The School of Undergraduate Studies recommends that 18 of these quarter credits be earned through undergraduate Information Technology courses. Capstone course to be taken in the final quarter is IT4990 - Integrated Action Learning Project - 6 quarter credits. To complete the Degree, students need 45 quarter credits in general education subject areas with a minimum of 6 quarter credits from each category. Residents of Arkansas must complete Arkansas general education requirements.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have completed high school diploma or equivalent. They must be at least 24 years old. International students whose language of instruction is not English are required to take one of the following tests: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum acceptable score of 550 on paper-based test, 213 on computer-based test with a score of 4.0 or higher on the Test of Written English (TWE), or 79 on internet based examination; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 80; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5; or Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 59.
