Course summary
This program develops the skills to effectively lead and manage complex information technology projects with this Project Management specialization built around the competencies in “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge” (PMBOK Guide), a globally recognized standard for project management. Because Capella is a registered education provider of the Project Management Institute (PMI), students can earn their bachelor's in project management and professional development units (PDUs) from PMI at the same time. People who choose this specialization are often interested in pursuing project lead or coordinator positions with corporations, consulting firms, or government agencies.
Program modules
Core modules include: Communication Strategies for the Information Technology Professional IT3006, Fundamentals of Project Management IT3120, Ethical and Human Side of Information Technology IT3160, Enterprise Architecture IT3200, Human-Computer Interaction IT3300, Hardware and Operating Systems Architecture IT3310, Fundamentals of Software Architecture IT3340 and Network and Security Architecture IT3350. Specialization modules include: Project Estimation and Budgeting IT4030, Risk Management in Information System Development IT4031, Project Integration and Scope Management IT4063, Project Communications IT4064, Project Human Resources Management IT4065, Project Quality Assurance TS4067and Project Procurement Management IT4068. Elective module is choosing from 39 quarter credit points of additional undergraduate courses. The School of Undergraduate Studies recommends that 18 of these quarter credits be earned through undergraduate Information Technology courses. Capstone module to be taken in the final quarter is IT4990 - Integrated Action Learning Project - 6 quarter credits. To complete the Degree, students need 45 quarter credits in general education subject areas with a minimum of 6 quarter credits from each category. Residents of Arkansas must complete Arkansas general education requirements.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have completed high school diploma or equivalent. They must be at least 24 years old. International students whose language of instruction is not English are required to take one of the following tests: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum acceptable score of 550 on paper-based test, 213 on computer-based test with a score of 4.0 or higher on the Test of Written English (TWE), or 79 on internet based examination; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 80; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5; or Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 59.
