Venue description

Emporia State University was established in 1863 as the state’s first school for training teachers. Although founded in 1863, the first term did not begin until February 15, 1865. The ESU campus was among the first in the nation to be accessible to the physically challenged. The recently renovated Beach Music Hall and the new Shepherd Music Center provide ESU with one of the premier music education and performance facilities in the state. ESU has recently remodeled and equipped 51 “smart classrooms” across the campus with state-of-the-art multi-media equipment. The campus also includes 200 acres of land and 20 buildings, extensive athletic facilities, including a new student recreation center, five outlying tracks of natural areas, three museums, and numerous recreation areas. Located in the heart of the beautiful Flint Hills of east-central Kansas, Emporia is a community of approximately 27,000. Located midway between Kansas City and Wichita on Interstate 35, Emporia is an important crossroads and trade area for the east-central Kansas population.

The university has two on-campus living areas have the capacity to house more than 1,100 students. Each room is furnished with beds, desks, chairs and storage space (closet or wardrobe). Each hall provides study areas, laundry rooms, recreation facilities, computer labs, message service and common lounges. Emporia State Apartments consists of 64 one-bedroom and 32 two-bedroom units, furnished or unfurnished. They are available to all students beyond traditional freshman status. Emporia State University housing facilities are available to all students without regard to age, race, color, religion, gender, marital status (apartments), national origin, handicap or disability status as a Vietnam Era Veteran, sexual orientation or other factors which cannot be lawfully considered, to the extent specified by applicable federal and state laws.
