Course summary
In this program, students will learn about the variety, classification, and biochemistry of microorganisms as they relate to the medical and applied fields of microbiology, immunology, and molecular biology. They will also study the interactions of microorganisms with their surroundings and hosts as well as the hosts' responses to combat infection.

The following are the modules: Biology Core Required Courses: Bio 111 Principles of Biology 1, Bio 112 Principles of Biology 2, Bio 210 Intro Botany, Bio 214 Genetics, Bio 215 Cell Biology, Bio 216 Ecology, Bio 217 Ecology Methods, Other Required Courses, Chem 111 General Chemistry 1, Chem 112 General Chemistry 2, Chem 231 Organic Chemistry, Phycs 110 General Physics 1, Maths 111 Pre-Calculus -or-Maths 161 Applied Calculus 1, Microbiology Required Courses 26 hrs: Bio 313 Microbiology, Bio 341 Pathogenic Bacteriology, Bio 344 Immunology-Virology, Bio 446 Applied Microbiology, Bot 446 Medical Mycology, Chem 360 Essentials of Biochemistry, 5 hrs from 200-400 level of Biology, Biotechnology, Botany, or Zoology.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must have at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale and must have completed a minimum of 12 years of primary and secondary school, undertaking a university-preparatory curriculum. Departments may set a higher requirement than a score of 550/79 (TOEFL) or 6.5 (IELTS) for their majors.
