Course summary

The major in theater arts/television and media arts affords an opportunity to concentrate in one of two directions: theatre or television. theater provides fundamental experiences in performance, production, and/or arts management necessary for professional goals. Television has similar professionalizing goals that focus on either the news and documentary fields or television drama.

Program modules

Students will have their courses in 232, 331, 332 Graphic Design I,II,III,IV,Introduction to Computer Art, Introduction to Painting, Introduction to Photography, Photography II, Color Photography, Introduction to Printmaking, Intaglio Printmaking, Introduction to Sculpture, Figure Sculpture, Intermediate Computer Art, Experiments in Computer Art, Painting and Drawing Workshop, Studio Photography, Photography Workshop, Computers in Graphic Design, Advanced Printmaking, Printmaking Book Arts Workshop, Advanced Experiments in Computer Art, Advanced Sculpture Workshop.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have earned the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma with required GPA. Regardless of US residency status, an English proficiency examination is required of all students whose secondary schooling has been outside the US in a country where English is not the principal language. Students who have achieved a grade of B or better in a college-level English Composition course in residence at an accredited US college are exempt from this requirement. English courses that are designated ESL, non-native, or which require a special support component, as well as courses taken outside the US, is not acceptable. A score of 6 or higher is acceptable for our Newark campus in IELTS. Acceptable scores for all schools except the College of Nursing are 550+ on the paper and pencil test or 79+ on the Internet-based test. For College of Nursing applicants, the acceptable scores are 600+ on the paper and pencil test or 100+ on the Internet-based test. For admission, all applicants must prepare and present a portfolio and a type written statement describing who they are, their experiences in art and life, and their artistic and academic goals for evaluation. at the Rutgers-Newark.For high school students, portfolios should include a minimum of 10 unframed pieces of original artwork, sketchbooks, and/or journals. For transfer students from two- and four- year institutions, portfolios should include work from their college level art and design classes. Their portfolio should demonstrate energy, intelligence, an understanding of composition, and a variety of media, sizes, and styles. Slides of 3-dimensional work are acceptable.
