Course summary

The BS program is taken by most pre-professionals, including premedical, predental, and pre-veterinary students, as well as those who wish to attend graduate school in biological sciences. This program offers a broad background that well prepares students for the MCAT, GRE, and other admissions tests, and impresses admissions officers. The BS program establishes the foundation necessary for success in graduate and professional programs and in professional life as a biologist.

Program modules

The courses are: BIL 150 (General Biology) and BIL 151 (Laboratory), BIL 160 (Evolution & Biodiversity) and BIL 161 (Laboratory), BIL 250 (Genetics), BIL 235 (Ecology), BIL 255 (Cellular and Molecular Biology), BIL 265 (General Physiology), Biology electives to total 34 credits, including two laboratory or field courses in addition to the BIL 151 and BIL 161 laboratories, One approved statistics or computer science course (BIL 311, BIL 511, EEN 118, CSC 120, MTH 224 or PSY 204), One year of inorganic chemistry with laboratory (CHM 111/113 and CHM 112/114), One semester of organic chemistry with laboratory (CHM 201/205), A full two- or three-semester series of Physics for science majors with laboratory, either College Physics (PHY101/106 and PHY 102/108) or, for the adventurous student who really loves physics, University Physics (PHY 205 and PHY 206/208 and PHY 207/209). A minor in one of the following natural sciences: chemistry (CHM), physics (PHY), geological sciences (GSC), marine sciences (MSC), biochemistry and molecular biology (BMB), computer science (CSS), mathematics (MTH), microbiology and immunology (MIC).

Entry requirement for international students

The standards for admission to this program are 1300 SAT or a GPA of 3.5 after 24 credits of work at the University.
