Course summary
Students completing the emphases (Chemistry, Secondary Teaching, General Science Teaching, Chemistry for Pre-Professional Students, Biochemistry) must also obtain a secondary endorsement in at least one subject other than chemistry. Graduate students seeking an endorsement in chemistry who already have a Standard High School Certificate (6-12) in the state of Illinois must complete 24 semester hours in the physical sciences with at least 10 semester hours in chemistry including 4 semester hours in laboratory work. Postbaccalaureate students who wish to pursue certification without becoming a candidate for a degree should consult with the discipline coordinator in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry as early as possible.
Entry requirement for international students
Students should possess High School Diploma and should have GPA score of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 (USA) scale or be in the upper-half of their graduating class. Applicants who have a GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale or are in the upper-half of the class must have ACT composite score of at least 19 and SAT score of 870-900. Applicants who have 2.50 on a 4.00 scale or are in the upper two-thirds of the class must have ACT composite score of at least 23 and SAT score of 1030-1050. Students should have TOEFL scores which includes 527 on a paper based test, 197 on computer-based test or 71 on an internet based test. IELTS Score includes 6.0. Students need not submit TOEFL/IELTS score, if they can prove English is recognized as their countries' native language and if they have attended a US High School for more than 1 year.
