The philosophy of the Office of Residence life is to give students an opportunity to learn and grow in a living environment that is necessary to foster personal and community development. The residence halls are an excellent place to meet new friends, participate in numerous activities, develop new interests, and learn to live in a community rich in diversity. Living on campus not only provides a place to stay while in school; it also enhances the learning process by encouraging self awareness, teaching social skills, and offering opportunities for individual growth. UIW is a community living style campus that emphasizes the education of the whole person in accordance with the University Mission. There are a number of campus housing options available. The residential hall is offered for first year or upper class students. Each residential hall provides the single, double or triple bedrooms. All students room is equipped with two extra-long twin bunked beds, two desks, two chairs, two sets of built-in drawers and closets, and a built-in sink. Also, each lounge is equipped with a refrigerator, television, and microwave. Most of the residential hall is a substance free and most of the rooms are equipped with one data computer jack per student. All residents in campus housing are required to purchase a meal plan. Each student is set up on a declining balance account. Each time a purchase is made for food using the student ID and the amount purchased is deducted from the balance. This allows a great deal of flexibility, but also requires that students manage their meal plan throughout the semester. The meal plan choices available are $1600 plus tax per semester: 15 meals per week/$400 dining dollars, $125 plus tax per semester: 75 meals per semester/$725 dining dollars and $900 plus tax per semester: 75 meals per semester/$325 dining dollars.
