The Department of Social Work offers with a longstanding BSW Program and a new MSW Program. The BSW Program offers a curriculum that prepares entry-level professionals in the generalist tradition. The MSW program is continuing the department’s legacy of quality and is in its final phase of full accreditation, which will be retroactive for all program graduates. The MSW Program prepares students for clinical practice. BSW and MSW students are provided excellent practicum experiences through a broad variety of internship field placements. our students, the practice community, the field of social work, and social work education. We offer recognition to social work students across the nation for their academic excellence through our headquarters of the Phi Alpha Honor Society. A Social Work Career Day joins students, community agencies, and practitioners in an educational and informational exchange. Students and faculty are involved in a number of community-based interdisciplinary learning and service activities. Both junior and senior faculty members are engaged in teaching as well as scholarship pursuits. Highly qualified as experts in their field, they are enthusiastic in sharing their knowledge and expertise in the classroom.

Campus living is an integral part of the total educational experience at East Tennessee State University. The staff of the Department of Housing and Residence Life at East Tennessee State University welcomes the unique opportunity of providing residents with activities that increase their understanding of diversity and enhance their social and emotional well-being. There are numerous benefits which come from on-campus living. Residence hall facilities offer a variety of features to suit the individual needs. All rooms are equipped with Twin Beds, Mini Blinds, Closets, Chairs, Room Sinks, Desks, Storage Space with Drawers, Cable Television Hookup, Telephone Connection (student must supply telephone), Internet Access. Additional features available to most students include air conditioning. All halls have kitchen facilities, laundry facilities, carpeted hallways, vending machines, outside bicycle racks, and a common lounge/lobby area equipped with a color television. Living on campus offers more opportunities for students to meet people and develop friendships. When the cost for on-campus living is compared to transportation cost, deposits, and monthly rent for off-campus housing, the cost of living on campus is generally much lower. Students may also elect to pay semester rent and fees in three installments.
