Course summary

This program provides a foundation of kinesthetic training in one or more idioms, and enhances expression and aesthetic awareness with concentration on the principles of choreography, movement education, dance history and theory, along with the process of performance. Courses of study include all levels of ballet, jazz and modern technique as well as ethnic dance forms tap and dance for musical theatre.

Entry requirement for international students

Students should have a 3.4 GPA or higher, ACT Assessment plus ACT Writing Test (scores must be from the same sitting) or SAT Reasoning Test with critical reading, mathematics, and writing scores (scores must be from the same sitting), two SAT Subject Tests in two different subject areas are History/ social science, English literature, Mathematics (Level 2 only), Laboratory science, Language other than English, May not be writing or Math 1C.

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a major and minor in Theatre and a major and minor in Dance. In addition to providing an integrated program for students desiring a major or minor, the curriculum provides a sequence of courses to fulfill the fine arts and/or humanities requirements for Muir College; courses fulfilling Warren College program of concentration requirements; courses to fulfill Revelle, Thurgood Marshall, and Eleanor Roosevelt's fine arts requirements; and elective courses for the general student desiring experiences in theatre.

This university offers wonderful beaches, cultural activities, and fine restaurants. It also boasts some of the most epic surf spots in Southern California. Downtown San Diego is just 15 minutes away. Triple rooms are appropriately furnished with a bed and desk for each student; however, configuration varies by college and facility. Triple spaces are currently available at all six colleges. New undergraduate students who are couples and have dependents are guaranteed accommodation at Mesa Residential Apartments. Eligibility is determined by Housing and Dining Administrative Services. International House is home to about 240 students from more than thirty countries. The I-House community provides a social atmosphere where opportunities for significant cross-cultural exchange between American and international students is plentiful. International learning is fostered through formal programs including current affairs discussions, cultural nights, and a community newsletter. Upper-division undergraduates from all six colleges, graduate students, faculty, and researchers are eligible to live in International House, located in the Eleanor Roosevelt College townhouses. Demand is very high for this special program and there is a waitlist each quarter. Spaces in International House are not guaranteed and admission requires a separate application.
