Course summary

This program is designed to enhance the role of the practicing clinician by preparing nurses to play a unique role in the delivery of high quality nursing care. Students in this role will learn to diagnose and manage symptoms, functional problems, and risk behaviors of individual adult patients, their families, and groups who suffer from illness, trauma or disability. Clinical nurse specialists are valued advanced practice nurses who provide leadership and serve as expert clinicians, consultants, educators and researchers. This program prepares nurses who will: Practice within an advanced practice nursing specialty in a professional, evidence-based, skilled, and ethical manner; Influence health and health outcomes of individuals, groups, and populations through clinical inquiry; Influence health policy and systems of health care in the local, regional, state, national, and international forums.

Entry requirement for international students

Applicants must have the following: Bachelor’s in Nursing with competitive grade point average; Licensed as an RN in the State of Oregon prior to matriculation; Expected graduate record examination (GRE) scores of 1000 (combined verbal and quantitative); Three letters of reference; Vitae or resume and a sample of scholarly work; TOEFL of 560 or higher required of international applicants; Statistics course with a grade of B or higher within the last 5 years; and Goal statement.
