Course summary

The Special Education Ed.D Program offers an Early Intervention Specialization. As with other specializations at the doctoral level, the major goal is the preparation of leadership personnel. Students acquire leaderships skills that assist them in identifying the significant issues in early intervention and in making effective decisions on behalf of young children with disabilities (ages birth to five) and their families. They also become researchers and scholars committed to furthering the knowledge and empirical base needed for enhancement of early intervention practice and the training of early intervention personnel.

Entry requirement for international students

Admission requirements include a score of at least 550 (213 on the computer based test) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or at least Band 6.5 on the International English Testing (IELTS) for all applicants whose native language is not English and who have not received an academic degree from an accredited institution in the United States. An overall minimum QPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for previous undergraduate work is required (an overall minimum QPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate work for students without a master's degree and a 3.3 in previous graduate work for students with a master's is required). Applicants should have three years experience teaching students with disabilities and should under go an interview with the Early Intervention Coordinator and one other Special Education faculty member.
