Course summary
This course Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program offered by Department of Acute/Tertiary Care at School of Nursing, Is designed for individuals in senior leadership roles who seek to lead complex clinical systems. In contrast to doctoral programs designed to prepare one to carry out major programs of research, the DNP in Nursing Leadership is designed to prepare graduates who are experts in evaluating evidence for application in practice. The increasing complexity and sophistication of health care and documented problems with health care delivery and patient safety prompted creation of this new role which prepares nurses to function in senior leadership roles with the visionary skills needed to be active participants in high level health care management and policy decisions. Graduates are prepared to design and conduct practice-related research projects, such as those designed to evaluate interventions to improve clinical practice. The DNP includes an application-oriented "capstone project" that is related to the student’s area of emphasis, such as, development of a new approach to delivering health care, improving system outcomes or altering patient care delivery at the systems level.
