Course summary
The Rossier School of Education offers the Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Ph.D.) and the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.). Both doctoral programs place strong emphasis on the acquisition of inquiry skills and on the collaborative and interdisciplinary study of issues mutually engaging to both students and the Rossier School of Education faculty members. Both degrees emphasize the acquisition of appropriate research and inquiry skills, but the application of these skills is expected to differ. The Ed.D. student is trained to use educational inquiry skills to solve contemporary educational problems, while the Ph.D. student is trained to contribute to the general and theoretical knowledge about educational issues. The Ed.D. is administered by the Rossier School of Education; the Ph.D. is administered by the Graduate School.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must hold a degree considered equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree, as evaluated by the USC Office of Graduate and International Admission. Their college or university must be recognized by the appropriate governmental ministry as a degree-granting institution. All transcripts and degree certificates/diplomas must be written in the original language of instruction. All original-language documents must be accompanied by a separate, word-for-word English translation. Dual-language transcripts are not acceptable. Official transcripts must show all courses and subjects taken and all grades (marks) received. Diploma Supplements must accompany transcripts from institutions from countries that are part of the Bologna Accord. An overall “B” average (3.0/4.0 GPA) is the minimum standard for admission consideration. To calculate their academic average, USC may convert an overseas grading scale to the U.S. standard scale. A vocational track is not appropriate preparation for graduate admission. Additional requirements are determined by individual graduate programs.
