Course summary
Students for this program must develop a broad background in mathematics as well as an intense specialization in the chosen research area. They may work in any of the following broad areas: algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, combinatorics, differential geometry, differential and integral equations, number theory, numerical analysis, probability, statistics, mathematical ecology, and topology.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting agency. A foreign degree must be equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's degree and must be accredited by its regional or national accreditation agency. Applicants must have earned a minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or other equivalent to a 'B' average. If student have completed previous graduate course work, they must have a grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or equivalent. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take and pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Passing marks are 550 for paper-based test, 213 for computer-based test or 80 for internet-based test (iBT) with a minimum score of 20 in each sub-section. Passing marks for the IELTS are 6.5. Official scores must be received directly from the Educational Testing Service.
