Health Psychology builds from principles and theories of other areas of psychology, biology, health, and social sciences. Health psychologists are concerned with promotion and maintenance of health, the prevention and treatment of illness across the lifespan, and improvement of systems that promote and maintain health.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Student should have earned at least an overall grade point average of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) in the graduate degree program. Addition to Graduate Application Instructions regarding minimum required English Language Proficiency Scores: TOEFL (Test Of English As A Foreign Language). Minimum required score: 83 (internet based test), 220 (computer based test), 557 (paper based test). IELTS (International English Language Testing System). Minimum required score: 6.5 overall band score. MELAB (Michigan English Language Battery) Minimum required score: 78

This department is committed to developing psychological knowledge through scholarship, imparting psychological knowledge through teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, promoting the discipline of Psychology through professional service, and improving quality of life through community service and professional practice. The faculty members of the Department of Psychology conduct research on a wide range of topics in traditional areas of psychology and engage in interdisciplinary research in areas such as Health Psychology, Organizational Sciences, and Cognitive Sciences. Products of Departmental research programs include books, book chapters, and refereed journal articles. Some of the Department's research programs are funded by federal and state grants and contracts. The Department is known for the quality of its teaching at all levels. Several faculty members have won teaching awards at local and national levels, and the department was the first winner of the university's Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Students have the opportunity to learn psychology in general education courses, core and special topics courses for the Psychology major and minor, graduate courses for the Psychology master's programs, individualized instruction, supervised research, and supervised community practicum placements.

This university provides housing for international students through four basic styles of living arrangements: traditional residence hall living (also called as high-rise style), suite style living, and apartment style living, Greek style living (restrictions apply). Housing and Residence Life's Facility Services Department offers various services that include: appliance rentals (micro-fridge and mini-fridge), conference services and university guest and intern housing, housekeeping services - for common areas (such as hallways and high-rise bathrooms), HVAC / heating and air conditioning services, locksmith and loan key services, maintenance services, pest control, plumbing services, project management. High-speed Internet service is provided to each resident by TimeWarner's Road Runner service. Students are strongly encouraged to install anti-virus and anti-spyware software as well as a firewall before coming to campus. Many of these software programs are provided free of charge by the University. Each residential area has washers and dryers for the use of residents. Students can use money deposited on their 49er Card in the laundry. There are no change machines in the Residence Halls so students should come with their own supply of quarters. Local telephone service is provided in each room as part of the fee for residential services in university's high-rise, suite, and apartment buildings. The university's Housing Technology Services (HTS) team is responsible for developing, managing, and delivering the technology solutions used throughout the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
