Entry requirement for international students
Students must declare a double major once reaching junior standing (90 units) and no later than 135 units. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 for approval. Student must prepare a Quarter by Quarter plan, and a brief Statement of Purpose. Students may overlap up to 2 courses in each department to satisfy requirements in both majors. Students will need to submit a copy of the syllabus with the petition. (History allows overlaps from the following departments: Anthropology, Ethnic Studies, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Theater, and Urban Studies).

This department is comprised of a full-time faculty of more than 40 scholars; this department has achieved national and international recognition both for the quality of its members’ publications and for its graduate program. Among this faculty are to be found a number of prize-winning classroom teachers. At the undergraduate level they stress the traditional humanistic skills of critical reading, good writing, and analysis of historical texts. At the graduate level we train scores of students each year in how to do research, write a major piece of work, and develop a professional identity as an historian.

This university offers wonderful beaches, cultural activities, and fine restaurants. It also boasts some of the most epic surf spots in Southern California. Downtown San Diego is just 15 minutes away. Triple rooms are appropriately furnished with a bed and desk for each student; however, configuration varies by college and facility. Triple spaces are currently available at all six colleges. New undergraduate students who are couples and have dependents are guaranteed accommodation at Mesa Residential Apartments. Eligibility is determined by Housing and Dining Administrative Services. International House is home to about 240 students from more than thirty countries. The I-House community provides a social atmosphere where opportunities for significant cross-cultural exchange between American and international students is plentiful. International learning is fostered through formal programs including current affairs discussions, cultural nights, and a community newsletter. Upper-division undergraduates from all six colleges, graduate students, faculty, and researchers are eligible to live in International House, located in the Eleanor Roosevelt College townhouses. Demand is very high for this special program and there is a waitlist each quarter. Spaces in International House are not guaranteed and admission requires a separate application.
