Course summary
This program is to train social workers for interdisciplinary practice in public health programs, both international and domestic, who are concerned with the promotion and improvement of the health of diverse populations, including women, children, and families. The program places emphasis on population-based solutions to complex health problems that are multifactorial in origin, rather than on short-term solutions for resolving immediate problems of individuals and families. Graduates may pursue careers in a variety of social work and/or public health settings related to policy and program development; organization of community services; program administration, planning and evaluation; research and teaching.

Entry requirement for international students
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. A GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) of at least 3.0 overall or a 3.0 average for the last 60 semester hours of coursework in a degree program. A score in the 40th percentile or higher on the MAT or 900 on the GRE (combined verbal and quantitative) is required. International students must meet the minimum TOEFL score for admission to the Graduate School is 550 on the paper-based TOEFL (pBT), 213 on the computer-based TOEFL (cBT), or 79 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT). The minimum IELTS score for admission is 6.5. TOEFL and IELTS scores must be less than two years old at the time of intended initial enrollment at The University of Alabama.
