Course summary
This is an interdisciplinary program of study with a focus on social diversity and social justice. Social justice education provides graduate coursework and opportunities for reflective practice for students concerned with issues of equity, social justice, and the development of a liberated consciousness. The doctoral program of study focuses upon research that is informed by the reflective practice of social justice education. The graduates are employed in a wide variety of community service and university and college settings.

Entry requirement for international students
Students are expected to have completed a master's program that is related to social justice education, and have prior professional experience in related areas of school counseling, teaching, teacher training, staff development, student services, or advocacy. They may also have certification in school counseling, special education or school administration and must submit a writing sample that demonstrates advanced writing and communication skills appropriate to doctoral level scholarship. They must describe their interest, background, and readiness to conduct doctoral level research in social justice education. They must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.75. Applicants, whose native language is not English, including those from India and the People's Republic of China, must demonstrate English language proficiency by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of 550 or above on paper based test, 213 or above on computer based test and 80 or above on internet based test.
