Course summary
This is a joint program offered by the departments of economics and public policy. The course of study combines a multi-disciplinary approach to policy analysis, with focused study on the use of economic tools to analyze policy issues. The core economics courses present the tools of analysis commonly used by economists, such as economic modeling and econometrics.
Program modules
The economics core courses are ECON 601 Graduate Microeconomic Analysis, ECON 602 - Graduate Macroeconomic Analysis, ECON 611 - Advanced Econometrics I, ECON 612 Advanced Econometrics II (Prerequisite: ECON 611.), ECON 699 - Seminar in Economic Policy Analysis. The public policy core courses are PUBL 601 - Political and Social Context of the Policy Process, PUBL 603 - Theory and Practice of Policy Analysis, PUBL 613 - Managing Public Organizations, POLI 623 - Government Budgeting, SOCY - 606 Social Inequality and Social Policy.
Entry requirement for international students
Students should have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. university or an equivalent degree from a comparable foreign institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale. They must complete courses in calculus, intermediate microeconomic theory, intermediate statistics, undergraduate econometrics and mathematical statistics or have equivalent strong background in mathematics and statistics. The GRE General Test scores are recommended. International students must have obtained minimum TOEFL scores of 550 on paper-based test, 213 on computer-based test and 80 on internet-based test.
