Course summary
This concentration reflects what is currently known about best practices in early childhood teacher preparation and prepares teacher candidates to meet the needs of children with and without disabilities in all settings, with an emphasis on urban schools. Teacher candidates will engage in field placements at the preschool level and the primary grades in schools that represent the diverse background of students and families across the district.
Program modules
The courses includes Philosophy of Education, Developmental Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction, Constructivist Approaches to Development, Forging Collaboration with Family and Staff, and Curriculum and Practice in Early Childhood Education.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 5.0 scale for the final 60 semester hours of undergraduate work and all post-baccalaureate credit, GRE general test score of combined verbal and quantitative, writing sample, letters of recommendation and personal statement. For international students, TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) is required.
