Course summary
This program is designed for individuals who hold a baccalaureate degree and are seeking a career as a teacher of elementary-aged children in urban classrooms. The program consists of a carefully designed sequence of courses and field experiences focusing on the history and philosophy of democratic education, a commitment to developing the full potential of all elementary-aged children, research-based knowledge of practices for teaching core content areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, and a commitment to collaborative leadership to enhance student learning.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 5.0 scale for the final 60 semester hours of undergraduate work and all post-baccalaureate credit, GRE general test score of combined verbal and quantitative, writing sample, letters of recommendation and personal statement. For international students, TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) is required.
