Course summary
In this program students are afforded the opportunity to join in the excitement of discovery, to engage in the challenges of research and contribute to the scientific community. Entering students quickly become part of research teams that accept the challenge of improving the health of the public by scientific advancement. Upon completion of the program, students become independent biomedical scientists equipped with the scientific and technologic expertise in their chosen field of specialization. It will provide diverse opportunities for performing research designed to elucidate the mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases such as: Vascular disease and atherosclerosis, Hypertension, Endothelial cell function and dysfunction, Cardiac failure and myopathies.
Program modules
This program covers the following modules: Year 1: Biochemistry, Molecular/Cell Biology, Introduction to Scientific Integrity, Colloquium in Biomedical Sciences, Research Rotations, Cardiovascular Physiology, Respiratory/Renal Physiology, Elective - CCS, Cardiovascular Colloquium. Year 2: Molecular Basis of Cardiovascular Disease, Elective, Cardiovascular Colloquium, Thesis Research, Cardiovascular Colloquium, Discussions in Scientific Integrity, Thesis Research.
Entry requirement for international students
Admissions to the Graduate Studies Program is open to students who have successfully completed the requirements for a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent academic degree. Applicants must have completed coursework in and demonstrated a high degree of competence in biology, organic chemistry and mathematics through calculus. The applicant must have a Graduate Records Examination score in the top 5 percent, a TOEFL of at least 600, official transcripts from undergraduate/graduate schools.
