Course summary
The SIUC master’s degree program in Food and Nutrition (with a concentration in community nutrition) and dietetic internship is dedicated to providing students the education and supervised practice experiences that facilitate entry level competence in community dietetics in accordance with the accepted principles of the American Dietetic Association and the Association of Graduate Programs in Public Health Nutrition.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must Have graduated from a regionally accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree within the past 10 years. Submit an ADA Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Verification Statement or Declaration of Intent to Complete Program. Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (where 4.0 = A) is recommended. Have taken the GRE within the last 5 years. A score of 1000 or higher on combined verbal and quantitative portions is recommended. Have the desire to complete a MS degree in Food and Nutrition with a concentration in community nutrition combined with a 7-1/2 month dietetic internship with a community emphasis. Pass the TOEFL examination with a score of 550 or above if you are an international student whose native language is not English. Thirty-eight to 41 credit hours are required to complete graduate course work and internships. Nine credit hours are assigned for the 1200 hours of supervised practice experiences. Additional course work may be assigned to students without undergraduate course work in community nutrition or nutritional biochemistry. A grade of B or better must be attained in core courses. During the supervised practice rotations, students are on-site 40 hours per week.
