Course summary

This program offers students a health-oriented, science-based curriculum and research experience. It is a scientifically rigorous, research focused program that prepares students for further education and/or careers in health and exercise science related fields. The program is structured to prepare students for further education that includes doctoral study, physical and occupational therapy, and medicine (e.g. physicians/physician assistant and nursing). Graduates are represented by careers in: health related research and development, hospital or corporate health promotion/wellness, clinical exercise physiology, and medical and allied health professions.

The modules include HES 692 Seminar, HES 600 Data Analysis for Research Designs, HES 556 Wellness and Health Promotion Concepts, OR HES 610 Exercise Bioenergetics, Electives, Statistics is required prerequisite, Biochemistry is required prerequisite, HES 693 Seminar, HES 645 Epidemiology of Health and Physical Activity, HES 520 Advanced Exercise Testing and Prescription, Electives HES 600 is required prerequisite, HES 693 Seminar, HES 686 Practicum, HES 610 Exercise Bioenergetics, OR HES 556 Wellness and Health Promotion Concepts, Electives Biochemistry is required prerequisite, HES 699 Thesis OR HES 698 Research, Electives, HES 600 Data Analysis for Research Designs, HES 692/693 Seminar, HES 556 Wellness and Health Promotion Concepts, HES 610 Exercise Bioenergetics, HES 520 Advanced Exercise Testing and Prescription, HES 645 Epidemiology of Health and Physical Activity, HES 686 Practicum, FSHN 550 Advanced Nutrition Science I, FSHN 551 Advanced Nutrition Science II, HES 560 Exercise and Nutrition, Nutrition regular course elective, 550 level or above (minimum of 2 credits), HES 699 (Plan A, thesis required).

Entry requirement for international students

Applicant should have completed a baccalaureate degree with at least five years of appropriate professional experience and an undergraduate GPA of below 3.0; or they should have enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at Colorado State University and who have completed at least 75 credits of course work toward their degrees, including 15 credits in upper division courses required by their major, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Applicants should have obtained General Test Scores (Competitive GRE scores are typically 500 and above on verbal and quantitative, 4.5 and above on writing), also they are required to have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 213 (computer based), 550 (paper based), or 80 (internet based); or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0.
