The College of Health and Human Development mission is to improve human well-being across the life span through interdisciplinary research, teaching, and service. It truly is ‘Committed to improving the quality of people life’. The faculties represent some of the most respected leaders in their disciplines, including fellows, presidents and board/committee members of numerous national academies and organizations. Their research on a myriad of topics has enabled the College to increase its portfolio of external funding over 470% from $9.7 million in 1991-1992 to over $58 million in 2006-2007. In addition, their peers and Penn State regularly recognize the faculty for their excellence in teaching, advising, research and actively engaging students. Their accomplishments speak volumes about the stimulating intellectual environment that the College has been able to create and sustain since its creation. Having experienced and dedicated world-class faculty allows the College to attract intelligent, motivated and passionate students. Along with their academic achievements, more than 1,000 of the College’s students participate each semester in service-learning activities that bring them into direct contact with patients, clients and consumers. The College’s undergraduate and graduate alumni, now more than 50,000 strong, continue to make substantial contributions to Penn State and to society through their jobs and their community outreach. This ever-growing network also provides internship and job opportunities for the students. Today, the College's seven departments, along with the School of Hospitality Management, offer programs consistently ranked among the top of their kind in the nation. Its nine highly successful research centers addressing major societal problems and influence policies geared toward tackling those problems.

Penn State Housing, Food Services, and Residence Life provide facilities, services, and special programming that enhance the on-campus living experience. More than 40,000 students are enrolled at Penn State University Park, the administrative hub of the statewide system of campuses. Housing is available for more than 13,000 students, and dining services include residential dining commons, snack bars, and restaurants. Food Services: Penn State offers unparalleled variety and convenience when it comes to Food Services. The University Park campus features seven dining commons, a great coffeehouse, six snack bars, and more - all conveniently located in or near the residence hall areas. Plus, Union Street Marketplace (HUB-Robeson Center), Otto's Café (Kern Graduate Building), and Café Laura (Mateer) offer a complete array of restaurant dining. Residence Life: The mission of Residence Life is to provide a safe, comfortable, secure, and nurturing living-learning environment that is conducive to students' academic pursuits and personal growth while fostering a sense of community, civic responsibility, and an appreciation of diversity. Housing: At all of its residential campuses, University housing is held in high regard. Through the residence system, the University provides convenience, high value, security, and a wide scope of programs and services designed specifically to help students succeed. Most undergraduate students live in North, South, East, West, or Pollock Halls; Eastview Terrace; or Nittany Apartments. Undergraduate students with families may apply to live in White Course Apartments. Single graduate students and students with families are eligible to apply for housing at White Course Apartments. Postdoctoral students are not eligible for on-campus housing. Students who live in White Course Apartments may purchase an A-La Board meal plan.
