Entry requirement for international students
San Jose State uses the same eligibility index as other California State System campuses, combining and applicant?s GPA with their SAT or ACT test score to determine if students meet admissions requirements. Most students with a GPA above 3.0 do not have to provide SAT or ACT scores, although students are encouraged to take at least one of those exams anyway. The eligibility index uses the applicant?s GPA multiplied by 800 and added to the SAT score or multiplied by 200 and added to ten times the ACT score to determine their admissions eligibility. For California residents the minimum eligibility index is 2900 with the SAT score or 694 with the ACT score. Nonresidents must have a 3502 using SAT or 842 using ACT. Equivalent to a U.S. grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (?B?), or above and results of the TOEFL or ELPT test scores. Secondary level students enrolled in American overseas schools should take the SAT and should not take the TOEFL exam. Successful completion of college preparatory subjects in English, mathematics, biology, chemistry or physics passed with grades averaging an equivalent of ?B? or higher from a secondary institution may be considered for admission. Grades and marks are minimum standards and are dependent on certificate completed. In addition to meeting the minimum admission standards, applicants applying as first-year (freshman level) or second-year (sophomore level) students must submit evidence of secondary school completion.
