Course summary
This program provides opportunities to focus on women and on feminist theory, gender and sexuality, and gender and health. Students can also take a more international and transnational perspective on contemporary global issues including the possibilities and problems associated with economic and cultural globalization, migration, diaspora, and religious fundamentalism.

The modules include GSOC 002 Gender and Society, GSOC 096 Theories of Gender and Sexuality, GSOC 104 Sociology of Sex: Comparative Approaches, GSOC 149 Law and Social Policy on Sexuality and Reproduction, GSOC 186 Gender and Sexuality in Japan, GSOC 187 Possessing Women, GSOC 236 Gender and the Body, GSOC 242 Science of Sex and Sexuality, GSOC 252 Freud, SOC 270 Folklore and Sexuality, GSOC 390 Gender and Sexuality in Literature, GSOC 422 History of Sexuality.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants should have completed a program of secondary education. They should also take up the SAT Reasoning test and two SAT subject tests, or the ACT with writing. Penn tends to admit students with a TOEFL score of 100 and above in Internet-Based test, 600 and above in Paper-Based test and 260 or above in Computer-Based test. However, if a student scores higher than 650 on the Critical Reading Section of the SAT Reasoning test, then the student is exempted from taking the TOEFL exam.
