Course summary

This specialization is designed to strengthen the ability of the students to perform this strategic role. The course work provides an overview of important business functions and key human resource areas, mapped to the competencies identified by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The emphasis is on immediate application of the knowledge, competencies, and skills necessary to integrate business and human resource strategies. People who choose this specialization are often interested in pursuing human resource management positions in a business setting.

Core modules include: Professional Effectiveness: Stretch, Impact, Reposition MBA6010, Leading for Results MBA6020, Marketing and Brand Management MBA6110, Operations and Process Management MBA6130, Applied Managerial Statistics MBA6140, Accounting MBA6150, Financial Management MBA6160, Managing Information Assets and Technology MBA6180 and Strategy MBA6190. Specialization modules include: Human Resource Management in 21st Century Knowledge MBA6241, Building Organizational Culture MBA6243, Human Resource Management Technologies and Applications MBA6245, Human Capital Management MBA6247 and Organizations, Governance, and the Law MBA6249. In addition students should choose one from the following: Sales and Customer Relationship Management MBA6120, Building Relationships MBA6210, Developing and Coaching Others MBA6220, Leading Teams MBA6230, Facilitating Change MBA6240, Leveraging Workplace Diversity MBA6250, Negotiating for Results MBA6260 and Regulatory and Ethical Environment of Business MBA6270. Capstone module to be taken in the final quarter is Human Resource Management Capstone: Judgment, Planning, and Action MBA6340.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have completed bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency or an internationally recognized institution. They should possess a cumulative GPA of 2.3 from a bachelor's degree granting institution. International students whose language of instruction is not English are required to take one of the following tests: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum acceptable score of 550 on paper-based test, 213 on computer-based test with a score of 4.0 or higher on the Test of Written English (TWE), or 79 on internet based examination; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 80; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5; or Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 59.
