Course summary
The Master of Science in Research Statistics degree would provide students with the opportunity for a comprehensive study of probability and statistics with specific emphasis in research methodology, reporting, and consulting. Students completing the degree will be prepared for professional careers as research statisticians in a variety of settings including, but not limited to government, academia, and industry. A minimum of 36 semester hours of which at least 30 hours must be in mathematics. The program of study will include a core of 12 hours from Abstract Algebra, Real and Complex Analysis, and Topology. The degree completion will include a capstone course or comprehensive examination evaluated by a committee of three mathematics faculty appointed by the graduate program advisor in consultation with the student.

Core Courses (18 semester hours), MATH 6361: Advanced Probability & Statistics I, MATH 6362: Advanced Quantitative Methods, MATH 6363: Research Statistics I, MATH 6364: Advanced Quantitative Research, MATH 63xx: Statistical Software Packages (*), MATH 63xx: Design of Experiments (*).
Entry requirement for international students
Students need a Test of English as a Foreign Language (T.O.E.F.L.) score - a minimum score of 560 is required for admission consideration. Students applying for degree seeking status must fulfill the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School and the following: GRE minimum scores: 1000 minimum total on Verbal and Quantitative sections and a 3.5 on the Analytical Essay.Two letters of recommendation, 18 hours of upper level mathematics courses including one proof–based course, GPA of 3.0 or better in mathematics. Applicants are required to take the GRE test in Biology in addition to the Verbal and Quantitative tests. Unsatisfactory performance on a portion of this test may result in a requirement for the student to take remedial undergraduate course work.
