Course summary
The Master of Science degree in Primary Care of the Adult and Aged prepares nurses for an advanced practice role with adults across the life span. This program prepares the advanced practice nurse to focus on the management of health and illness, health promotion, disease prevention and acute episodes of chronic illness in primary care settings. Diagnostic reasoning, teaching and collaborative practice for an adult client population across states of health are emphasized. Theory courses run parallel with practica in order to provide application of theory to practice. Upon successful completion, nurses are eligible to take the nurse practitioner examination. Clinical placements are collaboratively arranged between the student, professor and preceptor to meet the students learning needs. Preceptors serve as role models and guide the clinical experiences. The professor maintains contact with the preceptor, provides overall supervision and awards the final grade.
