Course summary
This specialization focuses on applying current theory, research, and technology to the design of curriculum and instructional models. Students will also learn to use assessment, classroom management, and other techniques to strengthen instruction and reduce achievement gaps. Throughout the program students will build a professional portfolio to demonstrate their master's-level competencies to current and future employers. People who choose this specialization are often licensed P-12 teachers and other educational professionals interested in improving their classroom instruction or pursuing leadership positions in curriculum instruction and design within P-12 school districts or government agencies.
Program modules
Core modules include: ED5007 - Foundations of Educational Leadership, ED5501 - Assessment and Improvement of Instruction, ED5500 - Standards-Based Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, ED5503 - Classroom Management Strategies, ED5504 - Strategies for Eliminating the Achievement Gap. Specialization modules include: ED5006 - Survey of Research Methodology, ED5533 - Curriculum Mapping: Reflection and Practice, ED5534 - Instruction and Assessment: Theory and Practice, ED5535 - Collaboration for the Improvement of Curriculum and Instruction, ED5538 - Program Evaluation of Curriculum and Instruction, ED5544 - Master's Practicum in Curriculum and Instruction I - 3 quarter credits and ED5545 - Master's Practicum in Curriculum and Instruction II - 3 quarter credits.
Entry requirement for international students
Students must have completed bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency or an internationally recognized institution. They should possess a cumulative GPA of 2.3 from a bachelor's degree granting institution. International students whose language of instruction is not English are required to take one of the following tests: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum acceptable score of 550 on paper-based test, 213 on computer-based test with a score of 4.0 or higher on the Test of Written English (TWE), or 79 on internet based examination; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 80; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5; or Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 59.
