This specialization is designed around nationally recognized teaching standards, help students to delve into the research-based knowledge, skills, and attitudes of exceptional teachers. The core courses such as leadership, curriculum, assessment, and learning theory with electives are chosen to meet their educational, personal, professional, or school-site needs. Throughout the program, students will build a professional portfolio that will enable them to demonstrate their master's-level competencies to current and future employers. People who choose this specialization are often licensed P-12 teachers and other educational professionals interested in improving student achievement in their own classroom, or coaching others on these skills in a building- or district-level position or as a community college instructor.

Entry requirement for international students
Students must have completed bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency or an internationally recognized institution. They should possess a cumulative GPA of 2.3 from a bachelor's degree granting institution. International students whose language of instruction is not English are required to take one of the following tests: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum acceptable score of 550 on paper-based test, 213 on computer-based test with a score of 4.0 or higher on the Test of Written English (TWE), or 79 on internet based examination; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 80; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5; or Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 59.
