Course summary
The program encompasses a broad knowledge of the basic areas of forensic science laboratory disciplines (biology/biochemistry; chemistry and trace evidence analysis; drug identification and toxicology; and pattern evidence) with emphasis on the integration of analytical and interpretative skills. This degree program in forensic science requires completion of 36 credits of graduate study, including a research component.
Program modules
The courses includes Foundations of Forensic Science, Forensic Analysis of Biological Evidence, Forensic Chemistry and Trace Evidence Analysis, Physical Pattern Evidence Analysis, Forensic Drug Chemistry and toxicology, Expert Witness Testimony and Courtroom Demeanor, Research Forensic Science, Biostatistics I, Topics in Forensic Microscopy and Independent Study in Forensic Science.
Entry requirement for international students
Admission to this degree requires a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a Grade Point Average of at least 3.00 on 4.00 for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study and for all graduate work, must submit GRE scores, three letters of recommendation, one page personal statement of about 300 words, in the language of the applicant’s intended specialization and a sample of academic writing. For international students, TOEFL score of 550 for paper based, 213 for computer based, 80 for internet based with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21 is required.
