Course summary
The department offers a 33 hour master's program in general/experimental psychology consisting of 9-12 hours of core courses and 21-24 hours in a specialization area either in psychology or in psychology and a related discipline. A thesis (Experimental track - 6 semester hours) or a research project (General track - 3 semester hours) is required. The program is designed to prepare individuals for doctoral study in psychology or for employment in a variety of settings, depending upon the specialization taken. Specializations in experimental psychology include cognitive, developmental, learning, physiological/neuroscience, perception, and social psychology. Other specializations may also be designed with the guidance of the faculty.

The core courses are: PSY 612 - Advanced Experimental Design and Analysis I, PSY 613 - Advanced Experimental Design and Analysis II, PSY 699 - Thesis.
Entry requirement for international students
The requirements for admission are: Completion of general admission requirements for graduate study; Completion of 18 hours in psychology, including a course in statistics and a course in experimental psychology; Preferred GPA of 3.5, minimum of 3.0; Preferred GRE V+Q of 1000, minimum of 800 required; Three letters of recommendation; Personal statement of career goals; Adequate interpersonal skills and personality maturity as assessed by an interview (in person or via telephone) by the clinical psychology faculty. Students who lack prerequisite courses may be conditionally admitted to the program. However, credit for course work required in order to gain unconditional admission may not be applied toward the M.S. degree requirements. Students who do not have satisfactory grade point average or GRE scores may be admitted if there is sufficient evidence of probability of success in the program. This would be based on factors such as a previous related work experience, a satisfactory score on the Miller Analogies Test, or other indices normally associated with success on the part of students in graduate study in graduate study in psychology.
