Course summary

This program prepares graduates to assume leadership roles as advocates for healthier lifestyles. The MSHP degree, offered through the College of Graduate Studies, requires 36 hours of coursework, including 21 hours of core courses. The core course block is designed to provide students with advanced study in the foundations, planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion programs.

The courses are HEP 500 Advances in Health Promotion, HEP 510 Applied Health Behavioral Theory, HEP 520 Health Promotion Techniques, HEP 530 Epidemiology, HEP 540 Planning/Evaluation of Health Promotion Programs, HEP 550 Implementation of Health Education and Health Promotion Programs, HEP 560 Research Methods in Health Promotion, GED 507 Health Science Terminology, HEP 600 Nutritional Epidemiology, HEP 610 Seminar in Teaching and Learning, HEP 620 Seminar in Ecological and Environmental Health, HEP 630 Laboratory and Field Experience, HEP 640 Independent Study in Health Promotion, HEP 650 Workshop in Health: the CHES Review Course, HEP 660 Seminar in Clinical Health Promotion, HEP 670 Complementary and Alternative Health Systems, HEP 699 Thesis Research.

Entry requirement for international students

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and must demonstrate their proficiency in TOEFL with minimum scores of 550 or better (paper-based test), 79-80 (internet-based) or 213 or better (computer-based test).
