Course summary

This curriculum incorporates the essentials of master’s education for advanced practice nursing established by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing with a focus on nursing education. Taught by faculty members with both academic and professional nursing experience the courses are designed to provide advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice as well as the design, delivery, assessment and evaluation of nurse education programs. Courses are taught in a prescribed sequence that builds on student’s newly developed knowledge and skills. This specialization also offers convenient features such as electronic textbooks and auto-registration for their entire sequence of courses. People likely to be interested in this specialization include registered nurses pursuing advanced positions as nurse educators or clinical nurse leaders in higher education institutions, health care organizations, and the military.

Core modules include: MSN6000 - Orientation to Graduate Nursing Study, MSN6001 - Role of the Professional Practice Nurse, MSN6002 - Foundations and Frameworks for Professional Nursing Practice, MSN6004 - Policy, Regulations, and Ethics in Advanced Nursing Practice, MSN6006 - Diversity and Advocacy in Professional Nursing Practice, MSN6008 - Research and Technology for Advanced Nursing Practice, MSN6010 - Advanced Nursing Leadership and Management, MSN6012 - Evidence-Based Practice in Health Promotion and Disease Management and Prevention and MSN6020 - Nursing Capstone Project. Specialization modules include: MSN6102 - Role of the Nurse Educator, MSN6104 - Teaching and Learning Strategies, MSN6106 - Curriculum Theory, Frameworks, and Design, MSN6108 - Information Systems for Nurse Educators and MSN6110 - Assessment and Evaluation in Health Education.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have completed bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting agency or an internationally recognized institution. They should possess a cumulative GPA of 2.3 from a bachelor's degree granting institution. International students whose language of instruction is not English are required to take one of the following tests: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum acceptable score of 550 on paper-based test, 213 on computer-based test with a score of 4.0 or higher on the Test of Written English (TWE), or 79 on internet based examination; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) score of 80; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5; or Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 59.
