Course summary
The purpose of this degree program is to provide students with a theoretical understanding of leisure behavior with an applied background in tourism management and research. More specifically, the purpose is to expose students to a variety of methods widely used in the management and marketing of travel and tourism destinations and enterprises. The skills developed in this program are designed to provide students with marketable credentials in a variety of sectors in the tourism economy. They encompass many business sectors including but not limited to hotels, motels, resorts, private clubs, restaurants, convention and meeting planners, air travel, tour operations, cruise lines, attractions and theme parks.
Entry requirement for international students
Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree or Master's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution, a minimum grade average of B for all upper-division undergraduate work and scores that are acceptable for the program to which students are applying. They must also have acceptable scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Students should contact the academic unit for specific program criteria, which will require them to submit such items as transcripts, recommendation letters, and more. International applicants should submit the English proficiency test scores (i.e.) TOEFL or IELTS.
