Course summary

This program conjunction with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine sponsors a six-year combined O.M.S./M.D. training program, which is characterized by a broad educational experience. At the completion of the program, participants will have completed all the requirements of board eligibility to the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, received an M.D. degree, and completed one year of general surgical training (PGY-1). The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The most recent accreditation visit was in March 2005.

Entry requirement for international students

Students must have a Bachelor of Arts or science degree and be a graduate of an American or Canadian school of dentistry. They should have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement during college and dental school. Official transcripts, National Board of Dental Examiners scores (Part I and Part II, if taken) and letters of recommendation must be forwarded with the application. Interviews will be conducted on an invitation-only basis. Interviewees will be required to complete an OMS supplemental application. Approximately 20 applicants are interviewed for the 2 positions. All students selected for interview will meet with the Department's Admission Committee as well as the Admissions Committee of the School of Medicine. The School of Medicine acceptance will be for advanced standing into the second year. Matriculation into the clinical years is contingent on passing Part I of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) at the end of the first year (year II of medical school).
