Course summary
The animal cognition program is offered through the Department of Psychology but also affiliated with the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Program, principally located in Zoology and Botany/Microbiology. Students are broadly trained in the biological bases of behavior, but with an emphasis on animal information processing, especially inferential processes and decision-making. Although research training is individualized, it usually focuses on cognitive adaptations for foraging, caching, and pilfering by small rodents, especially members of the squirrel family. Training is carried out in the laboratory and field.
