Course summary
The program draws upon the interdisciplinary expertise of faculty in the Department of Geography and Urban Studies, but also involves the expertise of graduate faculty in related areas across the University, including Community and Regional Planning, Economics, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, and Public Health. Students will engage in research and scholarly activity with scholars who are active in helping to build multiple social science disciplines. They will also be equipped to seek employment outside of academe. Non-governmental organizations, think tanks, research institutes, service delivery institutions, international development and economic development organizations, increasingly conduct independent research and employ graduate degree holders in interdisciplinary areas like urban studies and environmental studies.

Entry requirement for international students
Applicants to the graduate programs have generally presented an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale, and a combined GRE score of at least 1000 on the quantitative and verbal portions of the exam. International applicants from non-English speaking countries must present results of the TOEFL examination. A minimum score of 575 is required for admission. If taken on the computer, the minimum score is 230. The minimum score for internet-based TOEFL is 80. GRE scores from the verbal and quantitative portions of the exam.
