Course summary

The practice of medicine is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of disease and trauma. Entry into medical practice may be gained through admission to an allopathic medical school from which the graduate earns an M.D. degree or through admission to an osteopathic medical school from which the graduate earns a D.O. degree. Although there are some differences in education and practice emphases, both types of physicians are licensed health care professionals. Either of the two routes requires a total of about 11 years of formal undergraduate and professional training.

The modules include BIO 121: General Biology I, or 4 hours, BMS 110: Concepts in BMS, CHM 160: General Chemistry I 4 hours, MTH (see adviser) 3-5 hours, IDS 110: Intro to University Life 1 hour, ENG 110: Writing I, BIO 122: General Biology II, or 4 hours, BMS 231: Human Genetics, CHM 170: General Chemistry II 3 hours, CHM 175: General Chemistry Lab 2 hours, MTH (see Premedical Student Handbook) 3-5 hours, PED 100: Fitness for Living 2 hours, CSC 101 or CIS 101: Computers for Learning 2 hours, MTH (see Premedical Student Handbook) 3-5 hours, CHM 310: Organic Chemistry CHM 311: Organic Chemistry 5 hours, General Ed Electives.
