Course summary
This program allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from IIT and a Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) from Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) located just east of Main Campus. Students in this program must successfully complete the pre-optometry curriculum with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better, qualify for admission to ICO, and attain satisfactory scores on the Optometry Admissions Test. During the fourth academic year, students will take approved courses at ICO and receive transfer credit from IIT. Upon completion of the first full academic year at ICO and satisfaction of all other requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Biology, the student will be awarded that degree by IIT. Upon completion of four full academic years at ICO and satisfaction of all other requirements for the O.D. degree, the student will be awarded that degree by ICO.
Entry requirement for international students
Applicants must score at least a 25 on the ACT or 1700 on the SAT, and possess a minimum high school grade point average of 3.2 on the 4.0 scale. Admission is guaranteed for students in the program who maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 through their pre-pharmacy studies and a minimum grade of "C" in all required courses at IIT.
