While studying in Singapore, what I have learnt most is about how to be independent. As a foreign student, learning abroad means we need to be far away from home, from our parents, our friends, which means that we cannot always feel expected that the others can help us because all the things seem new, seem strange. We need to go across the lonely feeling; we need to face the challenge about a different language environment, a multiple cultures society and the unstable mindset. Large to various extents, Singapore did provide a comfortable and desirable environment for us to enjoy our study and life for this couple of years.
As a government school student here, the government did provide the tuition grant for support the study of foreign students in Singapore, which clears our financial doubts worries for money. Besides that, most of us choose to do the part-time work to help to solve part of the funding problem. It’s true that we need to spend more than before, but try to be positive to get our own income is a much more better way than everyday try to be save, try to eat less, because during the part we also can gained our social experience.
The education mode here is really different as I received before, now we are able to choose the subject freely, to identify what we want to gain; we have more space and freedom in educational selection. The ways we use to receive also make us feel fresh, the knowledge not only come from the books as usual, Internet, speech, discussion, talk, team learning take more part because it’s reflected by the progress of the modern society nowadays. I might not worry about too much home work, as less pressure makes me to be more efficient. A new way, a new method, we did less, but gained more. Also, especially for those expressive and talkative students, Republic Polytechnic is a stage for them to perform. ]]
The people in Singapore are very friendly. During these 3 years, I’ve worked part time and enjoyed making new friends. It has been an opportunity to experience my life here. I have observed that the standard of living in Singapore is very high. However, it has been very fortunate to live in such a safe nation in which I can see policemen petrol the street to maintain security. Therefore, going home late is fine.
There is no doubt that the fierce competition exist in this society. Due to the amount of people who received high education, and the total working population across, I don’t think that the job prospects for foreign student will be very bright and promising.
