Macquarie has been a good experience so far in my opinion. The one piece of advice I'd give to any new or prospective students is to not be afraid to take part in the campus social life. This includes joining clubs, societies and other events. I only started to take an interest in my 3rd year and by then realised I had missed out on a lot in those first 2 years.
I relied on my University Admissions Index (coming out of High School), so the process was relatively straight forward. I did not need assistance until enrolment when the University staff and students help you enrol. The best tip for guaranteed stress-free application and enrolment is to be organised. Read the emails and attend the necessary info and enrolment sessions.
There are a number which can be found in your handbook, but I have not applied or relied on any.
The stark contrast between university life and school is immense. There is no one holding your hands and forcing you to keep up to date. It is left up to you, so a little self-discipline will go a long way. You should aim in your first year to keep up to date with your work, and as you progress do more study in your free time. Lecturers and tutor consultation periods are a good way to gain assistance if necessary. In terms of value, it will depend on how much you decide to put in. But if you do put in enough effort I'd definitely say its worth your time and money.
The college facilities are pretty much up to date. i-lectures and other valuable uses of technology mean you get all the modern comforts of a good university. There's a shopping centre next door which will offer you a decent selection of shopping. There's a bit to do on campus, but after a while it does get boring seeing as the uni is so far away from the city. I'm not only a member of over a dozen societies I'm also a senior exec for a few so I can say its definitely worthwhile joining a few to meet people and get involved.
As I'm just starting my penultimate year, I can only hope that the degree does advance my career opportunities.
