I was first nervous, alone and lonely when I first came over here. This has been my biggest adventure, coming overseas all by myself all on my own. There was a time when I wanted to call it quits and return home. But, slowly I started getting adjusted, homesickness, loneliness all went away. I started cooking which I had never done before. I started making new friends and sharing problems, happiness going out together living together. Today, I am a reliable, mature person. Melbourne has taught me a lot of things and I am thankful to it. This place has been nothing less than a second home.
I applied through a company which sends students overseas to different countries. The process wasn’t very hard.
Theres no scholarship available.
The faculty will train you until you are perfect. You may feel that it’s a waste of time but the faculty pushes you to your limits and brings out the best in you. I am thankful for that. Our batch started as inexperienced students who didn’t know how to cut vegetables but today most of us are chefs working at busy restaurants. I studied 30 hours per week. We used to class everyday. Fantastic teachers who made a life long impression upon me.
Melbourne a safe place to live. But recently theres been lot of attacks on international students. I advice the future and current students to live in a safer suburb because theres quite a few suburbs here which are the fav. haunts of antisocial, junkies and thugs. Working has been fun, I started as a kitchen hand then waiter and now a chef. I live in a shared house with students from other countries. We hardly meet the housemates but we try to meet every Sunday for dinner. Life is very busy here and quick.
I plan to work as a head chef for a couple of years and see how it goes. I also want to study management, but I need to earn enough money to pay my tution fees, so I will work after I get my diploma and decide about my studies later on as to whether to study or not.
