I attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill as part of my BA in American studies at the University of Essex. I think having attended it has given me a mature outlook on life as having experienced life as an international student.
I had to obtain a F1 student visa for study in the US. Tickets were expensive in August. £600 return (as I came back at Christmas). I got a student fare from www.startravel.com . I landed at Raleigh international airport which is 40 minutes by car from Chapel Hill. There wasnt a meet and greet service but the next day the study abroad office arranged a meeting for us for details of how to enroll in classes, student life etc.
I lived in Granville Towers which was close to the stores, bars and the campus. The libraries were fantastic with specific buildings dedicated to African American, Jewish studies. I attended courses dedicated to cultural studies of the US. The weather was great sunny and warm. It was near the mountains.
I am now pursuing my MA in Art and film at the University of Essex. Having both Essex Uni and UNC on my cv will give me great job prospects.
